I've had a few questions regarding my newest session yoga classes being offered by donation. In a world where prices are attached to almost all our interactions, I knew I wanted to do something differently.
As long as I have been attending Apryl's Kundalini Yoga Classes in the Yurt, she has been using a "by donation" payment model. I recall being unsure at first, many old stories about value and worth becoming noisy in my head, but I followed my gut, and donated what felt right at the time. It was empowering to choose what I could contribute, balancing the appreciation I had for the class and the needs of my family at the time. I left with a sense of belonging, like I was a part of a community that was built on a foundation of value being placed on an individual's presence rather than their finances.
I've carried this feeling with me over the years, the essence of this model calling to me as I look at the privileges I hold. I have been wondering how to share my gifts with the world, create accessible offerings, and pay my bills. After looking at several different models, settled on giving this a try.
If you are like I was and are unsure how to navigate this model, check out the image below for a guide.
